Explore NowTarnish is proof of pure copper
The inside of this vessel is natural, uncoated copper, so it will start to darken from its very first contact with water. This is not a defect. It is exactly how genuine copper behaves, and it is how you know you are not using a plated, coated or mixed-metal product. Copper reacts naturally with water and air to form a thin layer called patina. Patina is simply a form of copper itself and is not harmful to your health. Within a few weeks the inside settles into an even, antique finish. To bring back the shine whenever you like, rub with lemon and salt (or vinegar and salt), rinse well and dry. If you ever notice green spots, the vessel was left wet too long; clean it the same way and let it dry fully.
A pure copper water bottle, made by the people who sell it
This handmade copper water bottle is made in our own workshop in India from lab-tested 99%+ pure copper. We are the manufacturer, not a reseller, so we control the copper that touches your water, and we pay our artisans up to 50% more than typical industry rates. Kaarigar has been making copperware since 2013.
Independently lab-tested: lead and cadmium free
- FDA lead and cadmium leaching test: PASS. An accredited government lab (RTC Laboratory, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, certificate TC-6683) tested our copper bottle, jug, mug and glass by method ASTM C738-20. Lead and cadmium were below the detection limit of 0.03 ppm, against FDA limits of 2.0 ppm and 0.5 ppm. View the FDA test report (PDF)
- Copper purity: 99.51%. The mill test certificate for the copper sheet we buy shows 99.51% copper and 0.002% lead. View the mill certificate (PDF)
Both reports are explained on our lab reports page.
For centuries, Ayurveda has recommended storing drinking water in pure copper overnight, a practice called tamra jal. This bottle is built for that daily ritual and for carrying water with you all day.
How we make it
- One sheet, no seams. Each bottle starts as a single circle of 21-gauge pure copper. A press stretches it into a rough bottle shape, so there are no joints or soldered seams where water sits.
- Shaped by hand. An artisan forms the body and neck by hand on a spinning lathe.
- Hammered at least 1,200 times. Every bottle is hand-hammered with at least 1,200 strikes. This adds surface area where water meets copper, work-hardens the metal so it resists dents, and gives a natural grip. Most bottles on the market are hammered far less.
- Checked twice. Every bottle is inspected at least twice for defects and leaks before it ships.
Watch the process in how we make a copper bottle from a single sheet.
Key features
- 21-gauge copper: thicker and sturdier than the 23-gauge sheet used in many copper bottles. Why gauge matters.
- Natural copper inside, food-safe lacquer outside: water touches bare copper; the outside keeps its glow.
- Leak-proof threaded copper cap with a food-safe silicone ring, so there is no plastic in contact with your water.
- 950 ml (33 oz), enough for a full day at your desk, in the gym or on the road.
- Handmade: small variations in the hammered finish mean no two bottles are identical.
- Plastic-free and recyclable: built to last for decades.
Use with plain water only. Never store juice, lemon water, milk, tea, coffee or hot drinks in copper.
What research says about copper and water
Ayurveda has recommended copper-stored water for centuries. Here is what modern research supports:
- Copper reduces bacteria in stored water. Storing water in a copper vessel reduced common waterborne bacteria such as E. coli. Plain water gets the strongest effect. (Sharan et al., 2010)
- Copper is an essential mineral. Your body can't make it, so it comes from your diet. Copper helps make ceruloplasmin, which carries iron through the blood, and powers enzymes involved in energy, connective tissue and immune function. (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements)
- Copper supports antioxidant defences. It activates superoxide dismutase, an enzyme that protects cells from oxidative stress. (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements)
Water stored in copper picks up only trace amounts of copper, a traditional complement to a balanced diet. We don't sell this bottle as a treatment for any condition. We sell it as a beautifully made, lifetime way to drink more water. Read is it safe to drink from copper?
How to use your copper water bottle
- Wash it with mild detergent when it arrives.
- Fill it with plain drinking water at night and keep it capped.
- Drink that water the next morning, after about 6 to 8 hours, the traditional Ayurvedic way.
- Refill and use it like a regular water bottle for the rest of the day.

Care and cleaning
Pure, uncoated copper always tarnishes with use. It never rusts. Within a few weeks the inside develops an antique finish, which proves the copper is real.
- Hand wash only. Do not use a dishwasher.
- Every few weeks, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1 teaspoon of salt, fill with water, leave for 30 minutes, then rinse well. Or clean with lemon and salt.
- Dry fully with the cap off.

This is the only hand made copper water bottle I could find with a handle on the lid. I love that the artisans are paid 50% more than some other brands pay their artisans. Some of the others had a bag to put the bottle in, but no handle. This is much more practical and fits in the moderately sized cup holder of my car. The shipping was quick and even had a thank you card. I notice a slight taste difference with the water, so the copper bottle is doing what it should. The lid seals easily with no leaking. I'm happy with this unique water bottle so far!

This copper water bottle has a beautiful appearance and is very well made. I have used copper water bottles from other brands, but I have never been this completely satisfied. I am grateful for the craftsmanship of the Indian artisans. As mentioned in the description, the copper material is incomparably thicker than other bottles, the finish is smooth, and the appearance is beautiful and perfect. I was 100% satisfied the moment I received this copper bottle. You will not regret buying products from this company. Since I have used other copper bottles, I was able to compare the quality. The delivery was also fast. Thank you for the company's kindness.
Dear Ro Mi. Thank you for your kind review. It was a pleasure serving you and hope to hear from you again soon.
